Reapers is the first episode of the seventh season of Arby 'n' the Chief.

Summary

The episode opens with a glimpse of the future two months from the present, following a clan of trolls who infiltrate an online in-game memorial service for a deceased teenage Halo addict armed to the teeth with heavy weaponry with the intention of decimating it. The clan is also revealed to have a couple of unexpected members. In the present, tension between Cortana and Chief is sky high, and Arbiter undergoes a traumatic event.

Plot

Beginning roughly two months after the events of The Reunion, two players head to a funeral for an MLG player named Blumpkinbeast666, who died from a stroke after playing for an extremely long time in an attempt to become the best Halo player ever. At the memorial, a rap song that has been made by blumpkinbeast666 is played in his memory whilst three players stand in wait on a vantage point nearby. The episode then goes back two months earlier, where Arbiter and Chief are playing one of the Anniversary Map packs while Chief reflects on the fact that they aren't going on any "adventures" anymore, and Arbiter sarcastically states that he would love being pitted with Chief against another pack of "fucking idiots".

Back at the funeral, a player is confronted by three guards after spawning with different weapons than the other attendees and is told to exit the server and come back. When the player refuses, one of the guards is sniped while the others are assassinated by two other players. The three players crash the funeral and kill everyone while Arbiter and Chief talk about how online gaming is nothing but a "gong show", and that "conflict is in our nature." After the funeral is crashed, the three players are met by Arbiter and Chief, to which one of the players asks the others if the "clan's newest members get their dicks wet and take point." Later on, Chief, Greg, Cortana and Arbiter are in the kitchen, surrounded by various games. Cortana and Chief then get into an argument about what to drink while Arbiter attempts to open a game case. Chief throws a whiskey glass while Arbiter breaks his hand off trying to open the case. In the bathroom, Arbiter talks with Greg about life and how "you never see things coming at you." Chief and Cortana then get into another argument outside while Arbiter wishes that there wouldn't be any conflict in the house. Chief barges in, and laughs at Arbiter's missing hand. Chief claims he is just joking and asks for a "brofist" and says that they are "bros 4 lyphe", to which Arbiter states that he's relieved, and that he was worried that it would be for a while.

Reception

Released in the wake of massive hype, "Reapers" was received positively, although a large amount of criticism was centered on the short run-time and the uneven structure of the episode's narrative. 

Trivia

• Chief gives a slight reference to Master Chief Sucks at Halo, stating to Cortana how he was the first toy to live with Jon. The only other time he did this was in Cheaters.
• Jon revealed in the "Terminal" Director's Commentary that the glass smashing wasn't a sound effect and that he actually threw a real glass under-hand much harder than he intended, smashing the glass and leaving a small dent in his fridge.
