The first season of Arby 'n' the Chief premiered on October 12th, 2007. It serves as a loose sequel to to the Master Chief Sucks at Halo trilogy. It introduces The Arbiter for the second time, with a different personality to balance Master Chief's stupidity: a wider vocabulary, more serious attitude and a broader taste in games. The tension between the two characters is the main source of comedy and plot, with the characters forming a classic double act.

As both toys' speech is subtitled, the subtitles gained color, with Master Chief's speech colored green and Arbiter's colored purple; the subtitles also moved to the top of the screen. Chief's subtitled speech increasingly used leetspeak spellings; he also started using spoken emoticons, like ":(" pronounced as "sad face". Background music consists mostly of film soundtracks and popular rock and electronic songs, by artists such as Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys, The Misfits, Lords of Acid or Danny Elfman.

The action figure Master Chief has become a lonely drunken alcoholic who spends his time playing Halo 3. He finally gets some company when an Arbiter action figure gets delivered to Jon's house.

Reception[]

Feedback to the first season was very enthusiasic. Many positive comments praised the show's wry humor as well as its unabashed criticism, satire, and deconstruction of video game conventions and the video game industry at the time. The chemistry between Arbiter and Chief also drew significant acclaim from viewers.
