"The only people we could ever call friends -- a psychopath, a sadist and a pedophile. What the hell is it about us? Can't we make a normal fucking friend?"
Arbiter

What Lies Beneath is the nineteenth episode of the seventh season of Arby 'n' the Chief.

Summary[]

The toys discuss which course of action to take in response to Colin's inappropriate conduct with a minor online, and are given a jarring glimpse of Eugene's malice.

Plot[]

Sitting on the floor, Arbiter conveys skepticism regarding Chief's alarming discovery earlier that morning. Chief, clearly frustrated over Arbiter not believing him, says that Colin had said "creepy shit" to him as well as inviting him to his private chat server. A taken aback by what Chief said, Arbiter decides to see Eugene and tell him about Colin. Meanwhile, Brody and Kyle discuss on whether or not they should hand the software to Xbox Live before being interrupted by Eugene and his clan. Eugene fragbans Kyle after saying that Brody was gay and confronts Brody regarding his possession of fragban. Brody, now seeming on the point of breaking down, confesses his intents and Eugene threatens him with his life before murdering him as well. Arbiter, disturbed on how Brody was tormented, tells Eugene that they were only in this for the laughs and calls him out on what he has done, but is only told to mind his business.

Later that night, the two discuss the events that have transpired and Arbiter states that what Eugene had done was completely wrong and asks what the hell was wrong with them for befriending "a psychopath, a sadist and a pedophile". After admitting this as well, Chief asks if this meant Arbiter wanted to leave Eugene's clan, but Arbiter states that everyone he cared about besides Chief and Eugene were gone, and if he loses Eugene, he will be alone; a condition which he frets dying with. Chief then opts to smoke near the window while he tells Arbiter to fetch the last one from under the oven. Using a knife, Arbiter attempts to fish out the cigarette but instead finds one of Greg's old notes, saying "You have a good heart, Arbiter. Don't lose it." Arbiter then sits against the oven in silence while Chief calls him over to smoke.
